In 2017 the festival is going to take place from May 30 to June 5.

The first “Rainbow” international theater festival occurred in February of 2000. For the 16 years of its existence the festival has reached
a level that is rather high and significant for the theater community: annually “Rainbow” demonstrates performances from all over the world. The festival has received guests from the USA, the UK, Germany, France, Belgium, Estonia, Bulgaria, Greece and many others. For these 16 years the festival has presented about 200 thrilling theater performances from theaters of different countries to Russian viewers.

The Rainbow's aim is to search for modern drama for the youth, along with those directors who work with brand new theater forms that live up to main sentiments of today. The festival’s idea consists in positioning of theater art for children as highly artistic and topical. The meeting of directors and theater managers help to sort out various issues of the youth theater work in the contemporary fast-changing world, to exchange creativity and management experience. The aspect that is vividly interesting for a young audience is young directors' opinions about today's reality, and its reflection in the space of theater. Every year the festival's agenda is stunningly various and contains a great many noted directors' names.

In 2015 the project's creators were honored with the government award for culture for creation and development of the festival.
