The annual review of ballet performances within the walls of Mariinsky theater is deemed to be one of the most exciting events on the Northern capital’s cultural agenda. Since its establishment in 2001 the festival immediately managed to find its own way to success.

It consists of the ideal balance between the world-class cast and the program that includes world-renowned works.

Apart from the brilliant performances of such legendary ballets as “Swan Lake”, “Giselle”, “La Bayadère ”, and “Don Quixote”, spectators will enjoy young choreographers’ unconventional premieres and outstanding dancers’ benefit performances. The best of the new works from the festival participants are traditionally added to Mariinsky theater’s repertoire.

In 2017 “Mariinsky” Ballet festival is going to kick off with a new staging of Joseph Mazilier’s “Paquita”, which was once presented on the Russian stage by the legendary Marius Petipa. The main guest at this dance celebration will again be Perm Opera and Ballet Theater, with its last season premiere – “Swan Lake” produced by Alexey Miroshnichenko. Once again “Mariinsky” provides an opportunity for talented young choreographers from different countries to prove themselves within the framework of the Creativity workshop. As usual, the culmination of the festival will be a grandiose final gala concert involving invited international dance stars.
