In Kamchatka, ground has been broken on Russia's only igloo hotel of ice and snow. The unusual accommodation facility will be opened on the grounds of the Nachikinsky sanatorium. It is expected to be completed by the New Year.
Its construction is carried out by volunteers from across the country. The interior design of the hotel will be created by well-known snow carvers, Sergey Zinner from Angarsk and Shura Shestakov from Yekaterinburg. The winter hotel complex will include several igloos built of ice blocks.
The organizers report that all the igloos are sufficiently sturdy. Tourists will be able to sleep inside since the temperature doesn’t fall below -3 °C. Sleeping areas are equipped with several sleeping bags and animals skins for warmth. Next to the igloos there will be a heated outdoor swimming pool. Guests will be able to enjoy a ride on a dog sled and discover the life of the Inuit.
The Ice Hotel will be built on the Kamchatka Peninsula for the second year in a row. Last year, it was open only from March to May and had almost a hundred guests during that time, Turister reports.
